NAFAS (National Awareness For Anti-Smoking) is a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit with its heart in Lebanon and the Arab world. We work on why people start smoking and why they keep going.
How smoke got cool
1940s
They used doctors.
Cigarette ads told you which brand doctors smoked.
1950s to 90s
They built heroes.
Cowboys, movie stars and cartoon camels sold the habit for decades.
Today
They changed the packaging.
Fruit flavors, sleek vapes and hookah lounges made for photos.
Our turn
We tell the rest of the story.
We use the same images and show how it really ends.
A note from our founder
I trained and worked as a doctor in Lebanon, where a cigarette with your coffee and a hookah at every gathering are part of daily life.
I started making short videos about it, in plain words and with real sources. Hundreds of people wrote to tell me they quit. That is when I knew one social media account was not enough.
NAFAS is how we keep going, with more people and in more places. So take a NAFAS, and then take another one.

How we work
Every number has a source.
We rely on WHO, CDC and peer-reviewed research, and we link to it.
The industry is the problem, not the smoker.
We never make fun of people who smoke. Our target is the companies that sold them the habit.
Made for our region.
Arabic for the whole region, Lebanese dialect when it gets personal, and English for everyone else.
No tobacco money.
We don't accept money from tobacco companies or their foundations.

NAFAS is a registered US 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in August 2024, EIN 99-4440788. NAFAS is run by volunteers and no one is paid, including our founder. If you have questions about our finances, email us and we'll answer.
